And that means we are going to talk about supporting your local non-profits, where many hands can do more. In challenging times like these are less advantaged taxpayers may need a hand-up. And your support can come in the form of financial contributions, or you can donate your time. So choose your favorite charity and catch a break when you file your taxes.
There are plenty of qualified 501 (c)(3) non-profit, charitable organizations that you can support in the Washington, DC Metro Area. And they serve a broad range of missions. There are also organizations that we support such as XYZ Services, Women Who Care Ministries, and Avery Road Alumni Association. These are worthy non-profits with already established 501 (c)(3) status.
Donations made to these or any other qualified non-profit organization can be written off on your taxes on schedule A of the tax return as an itemized deduction. Taxpayers who itemize deductions on their income tax returns can deduct most contributions they make to charitable organizations. You can also, write off mileage on your automobile on the return. However, you cannot write of the “gift of time” or volunteer hours. To this regard, your volunteer work simply has to come from the spirit to serve.

In order to develop a strong community, members of the community have to come together to help build strong links. So we urge you to look around your community. And find the weak links.
